Legislation changes for small businesses 01.07.2009 |
|
On the 18th June 2009 the Federal Government passed the provision for the Fair Work Act. An important part of the Act (effective from 1st July 2009) is the change to the unfair dismissal laws. Under the old Work Choices Legislation, only employees with more than 100 employees were subject to unfair dismissal laws. The new Fair Work Act restores the application of unfair dismissal rights to all employees within the Federal system, but with concession for small businesses (a small business is now defined as having fewer than 15 employees).
What does this mean for you?
If you employ between 15 to 99 staff you were previously not subject to unfair dismissal laws - now you are! |
